Sexual Performance and Alcohol – Social Lubricant vs. Libido Buster

Although it can be great stress relief to indulge in a bit of alcohol from time to time, sometimes too much can lead to loss of sexual function and ongoing penis health problems. According to the US Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), drinking alcohol in moderate amounts translates into no more than two drinks a day for men and one drink for women. The liver can only disintegrate a standard-sized cup of alcohol in an hour, so drinking more than that on a regular basis results in toxins from the alcohol building up in the body. This can have a detrimental effect on one’s organs, including those that are involved in sexual activities.

Erectile Function and Alcohol

Drinking too much alcohol can lead to temporary erectile issues. Researchers at the University of Washington conducted a study in which they found that sober men were able to gain an erection much more quickly than men who were under the influence. In fact, some men were unable to gain an erection at all after drinking. Drinking alcohol before sex lowers the amount of blood that flows into the penis, which can also lead to decreased intensity of orgasms. Over time, alcohol can lead to long-term erectile dysfunction.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases

One of the risks involved with drinking and sex is that impairment can increase one’s chances of contracting a sexually transmitted disease or HIV/AIDS. Drinking alcohol has the effect of lowering one’s inhibitions, which could result in one night stands with strangers or forgetting to use protection while engaging in sexual activity.

Smoking

Often alcohol and smoking go hand-in-hand. In fact, according to various clinical and experimental studies, alcohol can cause a dose-dependent increase in smoking urges, even among light smokers. People who drink are more likely to smoke, and if one is drinking heavily then one is more likely to start smoking much more, too. Smoking can contribute to difficulty in maintaining an erection, because it constricts the blood vessels that carry blood to the penis. In addition, tobacco use has been shown to reduce penis sensation.

Decrease in Sperm Health

Drinking excessively can affect sperm quality as well as quantity, making it much more difficult for men to conceive children.

Lack of Libido

Alcohol is a depressant, so it could lead to issues such as depression. This has the effect of lowering one’s enthusiasm about life – and sex. Although one might think that alcohol has the tendency to increase interest in sex, and this could be true at first, excessive alcohol usage has been linked to a decrease in libido.

Healthy Penis

By steering away from excessive use of alcohol, one can ensure the greater health of their penis. Following a non-smoking, healthy lifestyle also helps to increase one’s penis health. In addition, adding a penis vitamin cream (health professionals recommend Man1 Man  Oil) to the daily personal care regimen can help to ensure that the nerve, circulatory and dermal tissue of the penis are adequately nourished and able to respond to sexual stimulation.
