As a quick Google search will verify, there is a wide range of sex toys available today, many of which are specifically designed to ensure a very happy penis.  For optimum penis care (and for the proper care of a partner’s private parts, as well), there are a few precautions one should take with sex toys – but fortunately, these do not really pose challenges and are easy to accomplish. These tips on the care of sex toys can help to make the experience safer and more enjoyable for all parties.

All sex toys need care

First, it’s important to realize that all “durable” sex toys are going to need a little upkeep. Sure, it’s different if a person is engaging sexually with an item that is a “one night stand” only. For example, a woman who uses a cucumber as a dildo or a man who engages in intercourse with a watermelon will, one hopes, dispose of the item in question after it has provided the desired satisfaction.

But for those who are using a manufactured cock ring, anal plug or other sex toy, then proper care is essential to ensure the best experience for all concerned. Among the tips to keep in mind are the following:

– Inspect the sex toys beforehand. Don’t plunk down that hard-earned cash without checking out the merchandise in advance. Some toys (especially some in the “jelly rubber” line) are made with phthalates, which are considered carcinogenic – so it’s good to give those products a wide berth. And if they are porous (which, again includes “jelly rubber” toys, as well as those made with polyvinyl chloride), they are more likely to hide bacteria and harder to sanitize. “Solid” materials, like silicone or steel, are not porous and can be cleaned more readily.

– Inspect them regularly throughout their life span. It’s also a good idea to keep checking out toys after they’ve been used. Some may develop rips or tears, which can become good hiding places for bacteria. If they develop an unpleasant odor, it’s a sign that something may be wrong.

– Sanitize them regularly. Lots of people cleanse their sex toys after they’ve been used, which is recommended; this gets any stray bacteria, fluids, etc. off right away. But even if toys are kept locked away in a closed plastic bag between rounds, they can still come in contact with bacteria. Therefore, sanitizing them shortly before they are used is also a good preventive measure to take. Many sex toys come with instructions for proper sanitizing. Usually, washing in warm, soapy water is recommended, after which they should be dried thoroughly. Some toys, such as those made of stainless steel, can be boiled, if desired. If the toy has parts that move, it’s good to open up the pieces and clean and dry them separately. Special care needs to be taken with toys that have batteries or electrical cords.

– Store them properly. As previously mentioned, once toys are completely dry, it may be beneficial to store them in plastic bags; however, do not store toys together (bagged or not) in a situation where they are touching and rubbing against each other. This can cause wear and tear, but it can also pass bacteria on from any toy that may not have been cleaned thoroughly.

A happy penis will be even happier if the sex toys with which a man is involved are properly cared for. The penis will also be happier if it is kept in good shape itself. Regular application of a superior penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil) can help significantly. Since aggressive use of sex toys may cause some soreness, utilizing a crème with choice moisturizing elements, such as shea butter and vitamin E, is recommended. These will hydrate the penis and help alleviate contact-related soreness. Since bacteria is always a concern, using a crème with vitamin A will avail a man of its mighty anti-bacterial properties (and thereby help eliminate stubborn penis odor as well.)
